Brake tools are generally provided with one of two mounting
tongues (or tangs). Special tongues can be provided upon request.
Dimensions for the two basic mounting tongues are shown in the
following illustrations.
Standard
Tongue The
standard tongue is most common and will be provided on
all tools unless otherwise specified.
Hook
Tongue (or Safety
Tang) The
"Hook Tongue" or "Safety Tang", as
it is sometimes referred to, is preferred in
applications where special safety or convenience issues
may be a consideration. Typical applications where the
Hook Tongue is preferred include:
When the
punch is to be used in sections. When the
weight or size of the punch is large. When the
application involves significant stripping forces
that act to pull the tool downward.
