Do More During Punching

What used to be special-order punch press tooling has become "standard," speeding the order/delivery cycle for impatient fabricators.

Despite hot pursuit by lasers, punch press tooling makers continue to add more capabilities to their products, and make them more readily available. Here's a sampling of what's available today.

"With other tool designs, we could run only 10,000 to 15,000 hits on a particularly difficult stainless steel before we had to resharpen the tools. With the Pass-Alpha tools, we were able to increase hits to over 165,000 before resharpening."

The Pass-Alpha system was introduced this year and is intended for thick-turret punching machines, such as Amada, Finn-Power, and Strippit. Heads are designed to prevent punch height locking failure. Other features include 0.375" (9.5 mm) punch regrind length, interchangeable stripper plates, punch guides, and a common punch body that is interchangeable with standard thick-turret tooling. All tools are available with TiCN coating, but the company says it is not required because of the quality of the tool steel used.
